Approach to Psychotherapy

Those seeking treatment do so for a variety of reasons. People may feel anxious, depressed, or consistently stressed and overwhelmed. Individuals may be experiencing difficulties in relationships at home or at work and others may pursue therapy when they feel trapped by patterns that keep coming back, limiting their senses of well-being. People may feel caught in the past by losses and trauma and others are anxious about the unfolding future. Some patients come to therapy because although they feel that they should be happy, they are not, and they want more; more self-knowledge, an easier time loving, and an easier time playing.

Irrespective of the reason you are pursuing psychotherapy, please know that I recognize that it is not always easy to do so. Please also know that it would be my sincere privilege to work with you and accompany you on your journey.

I believe the best treatments are simply what works for a given individual at a given time. Given the complexity of the human psyche, skilled care requires flexibility and creativity nested in a compassionate and confidential environment.

I combine a nuanced understanding of the mind – of what is and is not being directly experienced – with a pragmatic problem solving approach.  Sometimes, expediently and directly treating symptoms that are causing suffering is an immediate goal. At other times, a deeper understanding of these symptoms and their origins can lead to a deep and lasting change.
